Review: Face Washes Used with Clarisonic Mia

This is my second part of my review on the Clarisonic Mia. You can refer to the first part here. In this part I will be talking about the three face washes I've tried, what I think works best with the Mia, and the price/worth of each cleanser.

Clarisonic Refreshing Gel Cleanser: I received a sample of this cleanser with the Mia but did not try it until recently. I took this when I went traveling on vacation here a few weeks ago. It contains three natural active ingredients which Clarisonic describes as below:
"Willowbark extract—a natural antiseptic and anti-inflammatory
Bearberry extract—promotes bright, even skin tone
Japanese Green Tea—soothes and protects skin"
This cleanser foams with the Mia and it really does feel refreshing. It does an amazing job cleaning the skin, removing makeup, and balancing the texture. It gets rid of the oilyness but doesn't leave skin feeling dry or tight. There is fragrance added, but it is a very light scent. I love that it isn't overbearing.

Overall: I recommend this if you have sensitive skin and a sensitive nose.

This is the priciest of the bunch retailing at $25 for 6 oz.

Philosphy Purity One-Step Facial Cleanser:

Sephora's Description:
"Philosophy Purity Made Simple is a pH-balanced formula that rapidly dissolves dirt and makeup while deep cleaning pores. The best-selling cleanser contains infusions of sage, chamomile, and carrot."
I first started using this cleanser long before I got the Mia. I got the 8 oz bottle which lasted me a long time. As you can see I finished up this entire bottle. I find this cleanser does exactly as the above description says. It is a fantastic cleanser alone and works beautifully with the Mia. It too foams with the Mia and like the Clarisonic Refreshing Gel Cleanser, it cleans the skin, removes makeup, and balances the texture. That being said I have a love/hate relationship with this face wash due to the scent. While Philosophy states it is fragrance free, it is strongly scented from the oils and extracts added. I have debated repurchasing this face wash but have not at the moment simply because of the scent. Ironic, isn't it?

Overall:  Definitely recommend this but you will either love or hate the smell.

This too is a pricier face wash retailing at $20 for 8 oz.

Boot's Original Formula Cleansing Milk:

This is another product I got before I got the Clarisonic Mia. I purchased this in hopes of finding a cheaper alternative to Philosophy's Purity face wash. I was also attracted to the pretty glass bottle.

Boot's description:
"A light and easy to use cleansing lotion that dissolves impurities & make-up. Skin is left clean and soft."
This cleanser works nicely on it's own, and while it has some similarities to the Purity face wash, it is still very different. Like the description says it has a lotion consistency. It is very thick in comparison and does remove makeup very well. However when I use it alone or with the Mia my skin doesn't exactly feel skin and it doesn't help the texture in any way. The instructions for this cleaner say to massage it in the skin and wipe it off with damp cotton pads. With that in mind, this does not work very well with the Mia. It doesn't foam and still doesn't leave my skin feeling clean afterward. I can't fault it since it isn't supposed to work with the Mia but I find it to be meh. Another reason I don't this is fantastic is because when I use it with the Mia it leaves makeup residue on the brush head which is hard to clean up. With the prior two face washes the makeup washes easily off the brush with hot water. This too has fragrance, but is lightly scented, very tolerable in my opinion.

Overall: This is an OK cleanser in my opinion and I definitely do not recommend using this with the Mia.

This is the cheapest of the bunch retailing at $8 for 5 oz.

So which one would I (/did I) repurchase?

I was torn between the Clarisonic Refreshing Gel Cleanser and Philosophy's Purity Face Wash and decided to go with....

Clarisonic.

It was a tough decision. While Philosophy is on the expensive side, the Clarisonic is much pricier. Both work exceptionally well on an equal level. It was a matter of price versus scent. LOL. Turns out I would spend more on a scent I like rather than spend less on a scent I can't stand. But I did everything I could to save a few pennies.

I was due to purchase a new head for my Clarisonic Mia and when I saw www.Skinstore.com was having a 20% sale on everything on their site I decided to get both my brush and cleanser from there. I also decided to by the double packs of each to save a few extra bucks. Individually the cleanser and brush cost $25 each. The double pack of cleansers cost $45 and the double pack of brushes cost $40. With the 20% off discount the breakdown would be $18 for each face wash $16 for each brush! Big saving huh? Even with the discount however the face wash is still more expensive than Philosophy but worth it in my book. Philosophy would cost $2.50/oz while Clarisonic is $3/oz.

I hope this was helpful!! What face wash do you us with your Mia? Leave a comment below! <3

  2. I don't have a clarisonic and I've thought about it alot, but just simply don't feel it would benefit me. I never have breakouts - EVER - and I have quite sensitive skin. I still love hearing what others think of it though :)

  11. very helpful. never used a clarisonic before. i do use the purity face wash every night and i love it. while the philosophy micro-whatever face wash exfoliates well, it leaves my face so dry, so i use it only a couple of days a week. love hope in a jar as well. after a lot and lot of trying a billion of different face products- philosophy is what is working best for me. always curious about the clarisonic though, and if its worth the money.....
    long comment haha.
